Really insightful read. As a current college student weighing traditional consulting vs. social impact consulting, the "we couldn't do that" moment with Nancy stuck with me, such a different value system. Would love a future post on this: knowing what you know now, and with more social impact firms around today, would you still have started at BCG, or gone straight into impact work? Thanks for sharing this!

Josh, the training at BCG was super valuable for me, particularly as there wasn't really any strategy consulting in the nonprofit sector at the time (in the 1990s). Now, you might be well served to join a top social impact consulting firm, particularly if your values lean heavily towards mission-based organizations.
